House's History

Location

The house is located in the historical center of Mantova and is mentioned by Catasto Teresiano, with this definition: “House with garden”, propriety of Arrivabene's brothers, builded at the end of the XV° century.

Artistic and historical information

The building has a nice façade enriched by a beautiful balcony, builded at the end of '600. It has a marble baluster and elegant mullions where we have two nice child sculptures ("putti"); at the right we have the coat of arms of Arrivabene's family, a marble shield with the letter "A" embossed.

Inside, a '600 pink marble staircase allows access to three meaningful rooms. The first; with a ceiling "affresco" attributed to the painter Ludovico Dorigny (1654-1742).

On the left wall there is a yellow marble fireplace with modenate frames and particular bas-relief.
On the frontal wall there is a a gothic-arc window that leans in the following room, with ceiling decorated by Mantova's famous painter Giuseppe Bazzani (1690-1769). In this room we have a very nice red marble fireplace with very particular decorations.

In the third room another Bazzani's painting decorates the ceiling. Following a bombardment happened in the second world war, big part of it has gone lost, currently two female figures can only be distinguished. On the right wall there is a withe marble fireplace with green inlays.
